Job Overview:
We, at Jet2 (UK's third-largest airline and the second-largest tour operator), have established a state-of-the-art Technology and Innovation Center in Pune, India. We are looking to hire a passionate and experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our growing Data Engineering team, focused on making data assets across the business available in the cloud for advanced analytics, data science, and digital decision-making. These data assets drive key processes across business and operational teams, contributing to efficient growth, competitive advantage, and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
- Solutioning & Delivery: Lead the design and delivery of scalable and robust data products to support data consumers across Jet2.com and Jet2Holidays.
- Data Integration: Ingest, cleanse, and transform data from a wide variety of source systems into our cloud data lake to support advanced analytics, data warehousing, and data science.
- Cloud Data Engineering: Design and implement data engineering solutions on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS.
- Team Development: Support continuous training and development of the team and the broader data engineering capability at Jet2.
- Cloud Data Warehouse: Ensure the cloud data warehouse is optimized for performance, scalability, and ease of use.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams in Pune, Leeds, and Sheffield.
Technical Skills and Expertise:
- Data Engineering/ Data Warehouse: At least 8 years of experience working in data engineering or data warehouse environments, including hands-on experience with VLDBs (Very Large Databases) like Microsoft SQL Server, Teradata, Oracle, Vertica, Hadoop, etc.
- Cloud Data Engineering: Minimum of 3 years' experience with Snowflake's Cloud Data Warehouse and advanced features for building strong data engineering pipelines.
- Cloud Technologies: Experience with cloud platforms like GCP or AWS, including:
- Cloud Storage: Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Amazon S3.
- Cloud Databases: Cloud SQL, AWS RDS, DynamoDB, Aurora, etc.
- Cloud Analytics: Google BigQuery, AWS Redshift.
- Cloud Data Integration: Apache Kafka, Google Dataflow, Fivetran, AWS Glue, AWS EMR.
- Serverless Functions: AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions.
- Orchestration Tools: Apache Airflow, Google Composer, AWS Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow.
- Kubernetes: GKE or EKS for containerization.
- Programming & Scripting: At least 2-3 years of experience with Python for advanced data management.
- Data Modelling: Experience in designing cloud data warehouses and analytics solutions using layered modeling techniques.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, DataOps, and tools like Terraform.
- Agile Development: A strong Agile mindset and ability to follow strict agile delivery standards.
- Structured and Unstructured Data: Proficiency in working with both structured and unstructured data.
Leadership and Soft Skills:
- Leadership: Lead and manage a team of data engineers (Senior, Mid, Junior, Graduate level), ensuring end-to-end delivery within timelines and quality standards.
- Time & Task Management: Excellent time management and organizational skills to ensure projects are delivered on time and issues are addressed proactively.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across various teams and stakeholders.
- Problem Solving & Decision Making: Ability to analyze issues quickly, evaluate different solutions, and make informed decisions.
- Team Development: Mentor and guide junior engineers, helping them grow both technically and professionally.
- Conflict Resolution: Resolve conflicts within the team or with stakeholders and work towards amicable solutions.
- Documentation & Presentation: Exceptional documentation and presentation skills for creating and reporting solution designs.
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Education: B.E./B.Tech/MTech in IT or Computer Science (preferred).
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Snowflake Certified SnowPro Core or Advanced Certification.
- AWS Certified Data Specialist or Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional Certification.
- Google Certified Cloud Architect or Data Engineer.
- Python, Snowflake, DBT, Terraform certifications are also highly beneficial.
