About the Security Platform Team

The Security Platform team creates cloud solutions that seamlessly integrate Office 365 and Windows services with premium features supporting security, compliance, data governance, and data loss prevention.

We build global-scale services that transport, store, secure, and manage some of the world’s most sensitive data, leveraging Azure, Exchange, and Office applications like Outlook. Our India Development Center (IDC) team is expanding significantly and is looking for talented, highly motivated engineers.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer (SWE) who thrives in a fast-paced, highly technical environment. This role requires a customer-first approach, a deep understanding of Live Site operations, and expertise in large-scale data architecture, operational architecture, and distributed systems.

As a Principal SWE, you will lead feature development from architecture to deployment, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability. This role demands strong collaboration skills, as you will work closely with globally distributed teams, including Product Managers and Developers, to improve Microsoft’s security infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct research and strategic investments in complex areas of security and cloud computing.
Design and deliver features from conception to global rollout, covering system architecture, deployment, performance, and quality.
Develop scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud services with a strong understanding of design patterns and best practices.
Provide technical leadership and contribute to key design discussions across teams.
Perform code and design reviews, mentoring other engineers in best practices.
Work in close collaboration with geographically dispersed teams to drive backend system improvements.
Implement metrics-driven approaches to enhance the quality and stability of code.
Take personal ownership of services, ensuring completeness, quality, and user experience.
Work on a cross-disciplinary, agile team that is focused on future-oriented enterprise software development.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential Skills

12+ years of relevant software development experience.
Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) skills and knowledge of common design patterns.
Proficiency in C# (Java or C++).
Experience in cloud development (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
Experience developing and shipping Azure Services (preferred).
Strong DevOps and CI/CD pipeline experience.
Ability to handle ambiguity, prioritize critical issues, and effectively communicate technical concepts.
Expertise in multithreading and asynchronous processing.
Strong collaboration skills to work with global engineering teams.
Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with partners across geographies.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a growth mindset to adapt to new challenges.
Ability to work independently and efficiently while managing stakeholder expectations.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Skills

Experience with Azure security services.
Hands-on experience in large-scale distributed systems.
Background in operational architecture and network architecture.
Expertise in enterprise security solutions and regulatory compliance.

Security & Compliance Requirements

This position requires candidates to meet Microsoft’s security screening requirements, including:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check, which must be passed upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional specialized security screenings, depending on customer and government requirements.
